Following the observation by Rachael Mwagale (ED JAU) that over 80% Ugandans spend their funds without budgets, there was a growing sense that financial literacy would make an important component of the national thematic and competence-based curricula, so that young people do not fall into the same pitfalls current adults experienced.

In his remarks, the representative from the Teacher Education, Training and Development Department of MOES noted that provisions in the curricula can be strengthened to highlight financial literacy more systematically and that the Department will work with stakeholders to explore how best the teacher education curriculum can equip serving and trainee teachers with the necessary skills for imparting financial literacy training. Overall, this was a rewarding half day with a lot to reflect upon.

On 3 September, Power Teachers Africa’s CEO, Dr. Emmanuel Kamuli, “was privileged to be invited to attend the Junior Achievement Uganda Financial Literacy Forum held at MOTIV, Bugolobi, Kampala” along with the headteacher of Power Teachers Africa’s pilot school in eastern Uganda.
